The

Episcopal Relief and Development Fair Trade Project

Started in 2015, The Episcopal Relief and Development Fair Trade Project is a collaboration between Equal Exchange and Episcopal Relief and Development to involve more Episcopal churches and individuals in supporting small farmers around the world.

Equal Exchange is not only a leader in providing some of the finest coffees, teas, chocolate, cocoa, nuts and more; they also operate in a manner that works in harmony with Episcopal Relief & Development's asset-based methodology. Because the farmers Equal Exchange works with are paid above market prices for their crops, they are able to make investments in community projects, educational programs, and technical trainings. These cooperative organizations also help keep rural communities healthy and strong, and keep local cultures vibrant. Equal Exchange is also committed to supporting sustainable farming methods that help green the earth through reforestation, natural resource conservation and organic practices.

Through the Episcopal Relief and Development Fair Trade Project, you get access to Organic, fairly-traded products at discounted wholesale prices, ensuring that more of the money you spend on coffee and other products reaches the hardworking farmers who actually grow them.

Meet Episcopal Relief and Development

Episcopal Relief & Development is an international relief and development agency and a compassionate response to human suffering on behalf of The Episcopal Church. Our work to heal a hurting world is guided by the principles of compassion, dignity and generosity. We take our mandate from the words of Jesus, found in Matthew 25:37-40, that call us to feed the hungry, care for the sick and welcome the stranger.

For each pound of fairly traded coffee, chocolate, tea, and fair foods Episcopalians purchase through the Episcopal Relief and Development Fair Trade Project, $0.15 per pound gets set aside by Equal Exchange for a Small Farmer Fund. That Fund amounted to $1,526.48 in 2017. Small Farmer Funds from purchases within the partnership benefit Episcopal Relief & Development's Global Needs Fund. Contributions to the Global Needs Fund strengthen communities and make a lasting difference in fighting poverty, hunger, disease and disasters around the world.
