Uganda Stove Project

This spring, we raised $4,720 to help Ugandan women build 118 energy-efficient stoves in their communities, surpassing our goal of 100 stoves! Thanks to everyone who contributed to the effort by entering our giveaway to win $500 in Equal Exchange products, or by purchasing Organic Proud Mama coffee or a Mother's Day gift basket. We'll keep you posted in the coming months as these stoves are constructed, offering these Ugandan families a safer, smoke-free way to cook in their homes.

In the meantime, check out this piece by Equal Exchange Coffee Quality Control Manager Beth Ann Caspersen, whose work in Uganda--and particularly her work with the women in the coffee farming communities--helped shape this stove project.
